Bluffton – The Society of Bluffton Artists (SOBA) is set to showcase the latest featured artist exhibit, “What Do You See?” by Jane Capraro, also known as “JC Kuller,” from Sunday, October 6, through Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the SOBA Gallery. The artist will be available to meet guests at the opening reception on Friday, October 11, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
For JC Kuller, her career shift from banking to painting represents a return to her first love. The artist attributes her creative spark to her father, John Kuller, who was an illustrator and oil painter. Signing her artwork using her maiden name, Kuller, she pays tribute to her father’s legacy.
Back at her easel, JC Kuller focused on abstract and abstract expressionism, under the guidance of Missy Gentile at SOBA. Her dynamic and emotion-filled pieces often contain hidden meanings. In 2024, JC Kuller won the Best in Show award for her abstract work, “The Queen.” Her pieces are currently showcased at Alexander’s Restaurant on Hilton Head Island, alongside the SOBA Gallery.
Through her abstract work, JC Kuller encapsulates her personal worldview, remarking that the process is “an emotional, freeing, and creative force.” The artist strives to transport her audience into different worlds that may be humorous, magical, peaceful, sad, or highlighting an issue or challenge.
The non-profit art organization SOBA is situated at the heart of Old Town Bluffton’s historic district. SOBA offers regular art classes, hosts artist exhibitions, and provides scholarships and outreach programs. The SOBA Gallery is located at 6 Church Street and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays.
