The city, alongside the Town of Lexington and the Joint Municipal Water and Sewer Commission, is getting to work on a project that promises to tackle some pesky taste and odor issues in Lake Murray’s water.

Understanding the Problem

Those living near the lake have noticed it hasn’t always smelled fresh. Residents reported an earthy taste and fishy odor in the water, especially on windy days. When these algae die and start to decay, they release organic compounds known as MIB (methylisoborneol) and geosmin into the water.
