West Columbia is buzzing with excitement as the old building at 2501 Augusta Road is set to transform from a seasonal retail hub into a brand new urgent care facility courtesy of Prisma Health. This location has a history of opening its doors to businesses that celebrate various holidays, but now it’s poised to provide something even more essential—a place for community health needs.
For those who may not be familiar, the building has had quite the journey over the years. It was once a fireworks store lighting up the skies during Fourth of July and New Year’s parties, and it became a popular Halloween Express shop, dressing up our community as everyone hunted for costumes in the lead-up to Halloween. Now, this building is shifting gears to focus on health and wellness, making way for the Prisma Health urgent care center.
The Prisma Health urgent care facility is expected to provide a range of health services, from treating minor injuries to managing illnesses that may require immediate attention but are not life-threatening. This is good news for local residents who sometimes need medical care outside of standard office hours. However, while the large Clifton Construction sign indicates that *“Prisma Urgent Care is coming soon,”* no official opening date has been announced just yet. Construction was visibly ongoing when a reporter stopped by on a Tuesday morning, revealing the project’s steady progress.
In addition to the construction, the city’s zoning board is set to review the project during its upcoming meeting on October 15. One item on the agenda is a request for a variance concerning some additional signage for the health facility. This topic can be crucial since visibility often means accessibility for those seeking urgent care services.
Located just east of Interstate 26, the urgency care center couldn’t have picked a better spot. This area on Augusta Road is a heavily trafficked commercial corridor. As per data provided by the state Department of Transportation, around 38,000 cars travel this section of road every day. Being in such a busy location will make it easier for folks to find the urgent care they might need, whether they are locals or passing through.
Adding to its convenience, the facility will be surrounded by other helpful businesses that cater to varied community needs. Just a stone’s throw away, under one roof, residents have easy access to Hobby Lobby, Walmart, KJ’s grocery store, Planet Fitness, Lowe’s Home Improvement, and an assortment of casual and fast-food eateries. This accessibility makes it easier for individuals with health concerns to grab supplies or grab a bite before or after their visit, enhancing community support as well.
As we await the completion of this new urgent care facility, it’s undoubtedly a thoughtful addition to the West Columbia landscape. With the increase in healthcare needs and the convenience of having services closer to home, Prisma Health is setting up to make a significant impact on the community.
We can’t wait to see what’s next for West Columbia as this transformation unfolds! Keep your eyes peeled and let’s stay informed about the opening date and the services this new center will offer.
