West Columbia Airport Introduces New Dining Options for Travelers

West Columbia Airport Unveils Exciting New Options for Travelers

A new day has dawned for travelers at West Columbia’s Columbia Metropolitan Airport, as a host of new dining options have officially opened their doors. Heritage catering brand Carolina Concessions celebrated its grand opening on March 6, 2024, amid great fanfare.

Revitalizing Airport Dining

The addition of these new eateries significantly enhances food and beverage choices for passengers and visitors alike, both pre and post-TSA. The power couple, Herbert and Sandra Sims, the proud owners of Carolina Concessions, have been in the catering business for the past 30 years, providing unique, tasty, and appealing food right in the heart of Columbia. The new offerings have managed to amplify the airport’s metropolitan vibes to a whole new level.

New Eateries on the Block

Hand-picked eateries making their debut at the airport include Samuel Adam’s Columbia Brewhouse, Jimmy John’s, Dunkin’, and Columbia’s home-grown specialty, Friendly Caterer To-Go. While the first three are strategically positioned inside of airport security, Friendly Caterer To-Go is located near the main lobby outside TSA security. This allows travelers, airport visitors, and the general public to indulge in the Sims’ signature dishes.

Catering to the Curb

“You don’t have to board a flight to enjoy our food. We bring it right to the curb for you,” Sandra stated, speaking about the new airport outlet of their catering establishment. Her husband Herbert, who dons the chef’s hat at Friendly Catering, has also launched his BBQ specialty, The BBQ Pitt, for barbecue aficionados. Sandra added, “It took him about 15 years to perfect his signature barbeque sauce. You should try it; it’s heavenly!”

A Testament to Continued Growth

The launch of these exclusive food services is in line with Columbia Metropolitan Airport’s long-term development strategy designed to enhance the airport experience for passengers and visitors. Despite the downturn caused by the pandemic, the airport saw a significant 16% increase in foot traffic between 2022 and 2023, indicating a steady recovery.

Upcoming Gourmet Adventures

Maintaining the momentum of their launch, the Sims highlighted their plans to infuse more flavors into the airport’s culinary scene. Sandra hinted at the possibility of Italian gastronomic additions gracing the airport in the near future.

Conclusion

In light of these recent developments, travelers at West Columbia’s Columbia Metropolitan Airport can now look forward to fulfilling journeys, replete with desired amenities, convenience, and delectable cuisine choices, thus reinforcing the airport’s commitment to passenger-centric services.
