Unseasonably Warm November Begins in Columbia, S.C.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A Warm Start to November

As autumn rolls into South Carolina, Columbia is serving up an unseasonably warm welcome. This November kicks off with temperatures in the lower 80s, making it feel more like late summer than the beginning of fall. If you were hoping for that crisp, cool breeze, you’ll have to wait just a tad longer!

The Warm Trend Continues

High temperatures are soaring again today with many folks reporting a lovely afternoon with thermometer readings reaching the lower to middle 80s. In fact, the Columbia airport registered a warm 83 degrees yesterday, while in Orangeburg, it was a sizzling 84 degrees. Isn’t it amazing? Just last month, we were talking about the beginning of fall, and now it feels more like a summer day!

A Dry Spell in South Carolina

Interestingly, Columbia finished October with only a trace of rainfall, leading to this month tying the record for the driest month ever logged in the city. No matter how you slice it, the state is now sitting on the edge of continuing dry conditions. It seems like almost all of South Carolina is straddling that line of being abnormally dry!

What’s Next?

Looking ahead to this weekend, it looks like the warm weather will linger a little longer. Today’s forecast calls for warm temperatures around the lower 80s under a lovely partly cloudy sky. As we slip into the weekend, however, a dry cold front will sweep through the state late on Saturday, which will give our temperatures a gentle nudge downwards.

Fast forward to Sunday, and we can expect a slight drop in that warmth, with high temperatures around the middle 70s. Be prepared for partly to mostly cloudy skies on that day. And don’t worry, Monday looks to be a pleasant day too, sticking to that comfy pattern with temperatures again reaching the middle 70s in the afternoon.

Bringing Back the Warmth

But, don’t put away those summer clothes just yet! Starting on Tuesday, it seems we’re back to the lower 80s through Thursday. Rain seems to be making a quiet appearance as well, with a chance of showers on Wednesday and Thursday. But don’t hold your breath—it looks like the odds of seeing those raindrops are pretty slim. So, you might want to keep an umbrella handy just in case!

A Look Back in Time

While we’re savoring these warm days, it’s a pretty stark contrast to this day exactly ten years ago! On November 1, 2014, South Carolina was hit with its earliest and heaviest snowfall on record, delivering a shocking surprise to residents. The snowfall, which occurred on this very date, led to the temporary closure of I-20 near Gilbert and even caused a few power outages. Those who experienced that day likely remember it vividly, while today, we’re enjoying sunshine and warm breezes.

Conclusion

So, as Columbia basks in warmth, let’s treasure these comfortable days while they last before the chill of winter decides to pay us a visit. Stay tuned and enjoy the beautiful weather, and make sure to soak up as much sunshine as you can!
