Wade Penland secures spot on Team Lake Murray Country

On March 27, 2024, in Irmo, Wade Penland, an accomplished Executive Chef and Managing Partner of The Bistro, earned his seat on Team Lake Murray Country. His spot was secured by winning the hearts and taste buds of guests at the Taste of Lake Murray (TOLM) event. Penland emerged as the People’s Choice Winner at this year’s Taste of Lake Murray due to his standout culinary skills and popularity.

Taste of Lake Murray

The Taste of Lake Murray event took place on March 21 at the DoubleTree by Hilton. It serves as what’s known as the “South Carolina Super Regional Qualifier” event for the World Food Championships (WFC). With Penland’s win in the people’s choice process, he has earned his spot on Team Lake Murray Country for the year 2024.

Team Lake Murray Country for 2024

The Team for 2024 includes other notable names such as Chef Chris Williams, Owner and Chef of Roy’s Grille & BBQ, Inc., who serves as the 2022 SC Chef Ambassador and claimed 2nd place overall in 2023, and Chef Mike Ellis of LTC Hospitality Group, who secured 8th place overall in 2023. Penland joins this esteemed team as the People’s Choice Winner for the Taste of Lake Murray 2024.

World Food Championships 2024

The 12th Annual World Food Championships is scheduled to take place from November 8-12, 2024, in Indianapolis, Illinois. Here, Penland will join Ellis and Williams to compete against some of the world’s top cooks across 12 categories, including Bacon, Barbecue, Burger, Chef, Dessert, and more. The World Food Championships is a major multi-day culinary competition where contenders strive for food, fame, and fortune. Participants proudly exhibit their culinary skills and creativity to diverse audiences and a panel of judges.

With Penland now being a part of the team, Team Lake Murray Country is poised for success at the World Food Championships. The team is all set to represent the Palmetto State and make their mark at this prestigious event in November.
