After hearing the plea, Judge Daniel Coble issued a temporary injunction last Friday to push the deadline back.
This decision means that any voter across the state who hasn’t registered yet can do so without worry until mid-October. The South Carolina Election Commission confirmed that this extension applies to all counties, easing some of the stress for many who were caught up in the aftermath of the storm.

Though that number has significantly decreased, as of noon on Friday, there were still around 267,000 customers without power.
With several county voter registration offices closing for days due to the storm, many potential voters found themselves unable to register in time. In fact, offices in places like Edgefield, Laurens, and McCormick have remained shuttered because of the ongoing challenges brought on by Helene.
