Located in the heart of Lexington County, Cayce is buzzing with excitement! Recently, the city received a remarkable $2.1 million gift from the Boyd Foundation, which is just the sum needed to push the construction of the long-awaited Visitor’s Center at Cayce’s 12,000 Year History Park into high gear. Talk about a generous contribution!
This donation is a game changer! Mayor Elise Partin shared her thoughts, saying, “We are thankful for the gift from The Boyd Foundation to be able to build the visitor center for the 12,000 Year History Park. This park already provides archaeological evidence of habitation that dates back an impressive 12,000 years!” Isn’t that incredible?
The Visitor’s Center will not only help to bring this rich history to life but will also be incorporated into the National Park Service’s American battlefield plan. “To see this vision come to fruition to protect this land and tell the story of everyone who walked it is vital to our city, county, state, and nation,” said Mayor Partin. Seems like a big deal, right?
But wait, there’s more! This park is designed to be much more than just a leisurely stroll through history. It’s going to offer outdoor recreational opportunities and will become a massive tourism attraction, especially beneficial for families and school children in the Midlands area. As George Bailey, President of the Board for the Boyd Foundation, aptly pointed out, “This will be a great tourism attraction and an educational opportunity for children throughout the Midlands area.” Now, who doesn’t want to learn while having fun?
With this financial boost, Cayce is now ready to take the next steps. The city plans to finalize the competitive bid for constructing the new Visitor’s Center. As construction begins, residents and visitors alike can expect to see changes in the park that will honor and showcase the area’s rich, 12,000-year history.
This project is anticipated to be a perfect blend of nature, education, and recreation—what a combo! We can only imagine how this will breathe life into the park and attract all kinds of visitors, eager to explore and learn more about the area’s historical significance.
As we look ahead, the passion and commitment from the Boyd Foundation and local leaders truly show how much they care about preserving the history of Cayce for future generations. It’s about more than just bricks and mortar; it’s about honoring the legacy of those who walked this land long before us.
So, mark your calendars! This Visitor’s Center isn’t just a building—it’s a bridge to the past. And with a generous donation like this, Cayce is stepping into a future filled with possibilities. Visitors can get ready to dive into a living history experience filled with learning opportunities, outdoor activities, and, of course, lots of fun!
Cayce, with its vibrant community and rich history, is undoubtedly on the path to becoming a vibrant hub for culture and exploration. With the Visitor’s Center rounding the corner, it’s time to say hello to your new favorite destination!
