New Vietnamese Restaurant Bringing Pho and Banh Mi to West Columbia

The long-standing Olde Country Buffet location to transform into a vibrant new Asian eatery

West Columbia, SC — The flavorful, aromatic world of Vietnamese cuisine has found its new place in West Columbia. Pho and Banh Mi is set to replace the beloved Olde Country Buffet at Westland Square, 2250 Sunset Blvd. The restaurant, with banners showcasing its signature dishes, proclaimed its imminent opening a couple of weeks ago by installing new signs above its location and along the adjacent road.

As of March 5, the restaurant is not yet open and no official menu has been unveiled, aside from hints about its eponymous offerings – pho and banh mi. The establishment’s management has not yet responded to inquiries.

A Taste of Vietnam: Pho and Banh Mi

Originating from Vietnam, Pho and Banh Mi have spread globally owing to their distinct combination of flavors. Traditionally, banh mi is a sandwich served on a crisp baguette with fillings that include ham, pork sausage, cilantro, cucumbers, and pickled vegetables.

The other star of the menu, pho, is typically a beef-based noodle soup, featuring rice noodles, copious amounts of herbs, and a savory broth. While the traditional formula of these dishes speak for themselves, the restaurant’s interpretation remains yet to be seen.

The Rising Trend of Vietnamese Cuisine

Vietnamese dishes, specifically pho and banh mi, have been rising in popularity and are already well-represented in the Cayce/West Columbia area. They can be found at the conjoined establishments Little Bee Bun Mee and Duke’s Pad Thai on Knox Abbott Drive.

It’s not only in West Columbia that banh mi houses have been popping up recently – they have made their mark all over the Columbia area. The trend has not escaped the notice of some local barbecue joints, who have utilized the concept of banh mi to diversify their offerings.

Stay Tuned

The forthcoming opening of Pho and Banh Mi represents an embracing of cultural variety and the growth of unique culinary options in the West Columbia region. While no date has been officially announced, residents and food lovers can stay on alert for the grand opening of this exciting new restaurant.

The promise of delicious Vietnamese delicacies brought by Pho and Banh Mi is enough to tantalize the taste buds and keep the city’s residents eagerly waiting for this new culinary destination.
