As Veterans Day approaches, the local community in Lexington County is buzzing with excitement and gratitude for those who have served in our military. The Lexington Two school district is rolling out the red carpet to honor veterans with a series of recognition events designed to show appreciation and support. Do you have a veteran in your family or neighborhood? You might want to join in the celebrations or encourage them to attend!
Starting Wednesday, November 6, Riverbank Elementary will kick off the celebrations with a special Veterans Day assembly. Students from grades 4K-2nd will perform at 8 a.m., while students from grades 3rd-5th will take the stage at 9 a.m. Located at 160 Cougar Drive, West Columbia, this promises to be an emotional morning filled with honor and respect.
On Friday, November 8, the festivities continue with programs at Busbee Creative Arts Academy, where students from various performing arts will showcase their talents starting at 9:15 a.m. Additionally, Fulmer Middle School will hold a special event featuring performances by their chorus, band, and a surprise JROTC appearance. Doughnuts and coffee will be served, so it’s a perfect chance to mingle while recognizing our veterans! This event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 1614 Walterboro Street, West Columbia.
Northside Middle School offers a breakfast for veterans starting at 8:30 a.m. on November 8, while nearby Wood Elementary will hold a vibrant parade featuring young students dressed in patriotic colors, followed by a program with special JROTC guests—talk about a morning to remember!
The main day of recognition falls on Monday, November 11. At the Lexington Two Performing Arts Center at 6 p.m., everyone is invited to a free concert featuring Fort Jackson’s 282D Army Band. It’s a great way to unwind and enjoy some beautiful music while honoring our heroes. The concert will also highlight performances from JROTC and other musical groups associated with Lexington Two schools.
Throughout the day, several events are planned at other schools as well. At Congaree Elementary, they’ll kick off their program at 9:30 a.m., featuring student performances and breakfast for our veterans, while Brookland-Cayce High School will host a special Veterans Day program at 1 p.m. Notably, military veterans will be honored with keepsakes crafted by the school’s Honor Choir, which adds a personal touch to the event.
As Veterans Day ends, don’t forget about the Airport High School program on Tuesday, November 12. This tribute includes heartwarming performances from the chorus and dance team, set to begin at 2 p.m.. If you’re looking to make a difference, consider volunteering at one of these events or donating to help with refreshments and supplies!
These recognition events not only celebrate our veterans but also foster community spirit and a sense of gratitude. It’s a fantastic way for families and friends to come together and truly reflect on the sacrifices made by our service members. If you’re in the Lexington County area, take a moment to stop by and join the festivities. Your support means the world!
So, what are you waiting for? Get involved in these heartwarming gatherings to share a smile, lend a hand, and most importantly, show your gratitude for those who have served. Every little appreciation counts!
