On March 4, 2025, the community of Duncansville and beyond is mourning the loss of a beloved friend, father, and veteran, _Mitch Culp_, who passed away in Virginia at the age of 59. Family and friends remember Mitch not just for his service to his country but also for his unwavering love for family and a zest for life that inspired everyone around him.
_Mitch_ was born to _Darlene M. (VonDreau) Culp_ and the late _Martin J. “Joe” Culp_. Growing up in Duncansville, Mitch was a natural athlete, excelling in baseball and other sports during his youth. After graduating from _Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School_, he took a big step in his life, joining the U.S. Army and serving bravely during Operation Desert Storm as a firefighter.
After his military service, Mitch settled in _Virginia Beach, Va._, where he found love and became a devoted family man. He was married for nearly 25 years to _Moira Devlin Culp_, and together they raised three wonderful children: _Maire K. Howell_, who resides in _Keaau, Hawaii_; _Kathryn L. Heymann_, living in _Irmo, S.C._ with her husband _Erik_; and _Matthew D. Howell_, who also calls _Virginia Beach_ home. Mitch’s incredible legacy continues through his four grandchildren: _Maika’i Dela Cruz_, _Olu Dela Cruz_, _Natalie Heymann_, and _Emily Heymann_.
Mitch’s family extends beyond his immediate household. He is mourned by his mother Darlene and his two siblings, _Rita L. Pompa_ and _Martin J. “Marty” Culp_. His family also includes a brother-in-law, _Patrick L. Devlin_, and a supportive circle of nieces and nephews.
Mitch was not only dedicated to his family but also truly enjoyed life. He was an avid sportsman with a passion for the great outdoors. Hunting, boating, fishing, cheering for his favorite sports teams, golfing, and playing softball—both locally and in tournaments—were just a few of the activities that filled his life with joy. He was a dedicated member of both the _National Wild Turkey Federation_ and _VFW Post 6755_, and his contributions to these communities will be fondly remembered.
The Culp family is inviting the community to come together to remember Mitch’s remarkable life. A celebration of his life is scheduled for 6 p.m. on March 21, 2025, at _Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home_ in Virginia Beach, Va. It will be a time for all who knew him to share stories, laughter, and love in honor of his memory.
In lieu of flowers, Mitch’s family requests that donations be made to a beagle rescue organization of choice or the _Virginia Hunter Education Association_. This request is a fitting tribute to Mitch, who loved animals and cherished the values of education and safety in outdoor activities.
The impact of Mitch Culp’s life will surely resonate through the hearts of those who were lucky enough to have known him. As a soldier, a father, a husband, and a friend, his legacy will continue to inspire and uplift those he leaves behind.
