Nathanial “Nate” G. Baker, a 21-year-old junior studying business, was riding his motorcycle when he was struck by a pickup truck, resulting in a catastrophic collision that would cost him his life.
The fateful accident occurred around 2 p.m. at the intersection of Blossom and Assembly Streets. Baker was enjoying a ride on his motorcycle when he was hit by a pickup truck driven by Rosali I. Fernandez-Cruz, a 24-year-old who was in the country illegally. After the encounter, it was reported that Fernandez-Cruz allegedly failed to yield the right of way and did not stop to provide any assistance to Baker, choosing instead to flee the scene.
In a shocking twist, reports have surfaced revealing that Fernandez-Cruz was already under the radar of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the time of the accident, having a deportation order in place since September 2018. Previously, he had been arrested by border patrol in Texas back in December 2016, which had resulted in a previous order for him to be sent back to his home country of El Salvador.
