Columbia Seeks Volunteers for Pedestrian and Cyclist Traffic Counts

Columbia Requests Volunteer Assistance for Pedestrian and Cyclist Traffic Counts

The City of Columbia is calling for volunteers to partake in their Pedestrian and Bicyclist Counts initiative, a program aligned with the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project. The aim of these counts is to include pedestrians, cyclists, and transit riders in traffic analyses vital for progressing the city’s transportation planning.

Role of the Volunteers

Volunteers will be tasked with gathering data at crucial intersections throughout Columbia, especially those known for high pedestrian and cyclist traffic. Safety is a driving concern in these areas. The collected data will serve as a guiding resource for city planners in crafting safer, more accessible environments for both pedestrians and cyclists.

Schedule for Traffic Counts

Nine different time slots have been opened for volunteers, with counts taking place on both weekdays and weekends. Participants can register for one or multiple two-hour shifts. The dates and times for volunteering are as follows:
