Tornado Watch Issued for Savannah, Lowcountry Area

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Savannah and the Lowcountry region. The watch remains in effect from 3:40 p.m. Monday, August 5, to 1:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 6.

Counties Covered

The following counties in Georgia are under the tornado watch:

  • Bryan
  • Chatham
  • Liberty
  • Long
  • Mcintosh

In South Carolina, the counties of Beaufort and Jasper are also part of the watch region.

Weather Updates

This tornado watch comes amid projections of potential severe weather due to Tropical Storm Debby. Residents have been recommended to stay alert and regularly check local weather reports for updates on the situation.

Emergency Preparations

Local agencies have taken necessary precautions in response to the watch. Chatham Area Transit has suspended their operations due to expected severe weather conditions. A list of emergency shelters has also been made available to accommodate those who might need to evacuate their homes.
