The National Weather Service (NWS) has declared a tornado warning for the Savannah region, including Chatham and Bryan counties. The warning comes into effect immediately and is set to last until 7:30 p.m. today.
According to reports at around 7 a.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of spawning a tornado was located over Windsor Forest. The storm was reported to be moving southward at approximately 10 mph.
Citizens are urged to find shelter in the closest robust structure and if that is not available, choose a safe room in the lowest level of a sturdy building. It is advised to stay away from windows. For those outdoors, in mobile homes, or vehicles, the NWS advises relocating to the nearest substantial shelter at once to protect against potentially dangerous airborne debris.
In addition to the tornado warning, the area is also under a flood advisory. The advisory is expected to remain in effect until 9:30 p.m. With the potential for heavy rainfall, residents in flood-prone regions should be aware of the likelihood of localized flooding.
