In what can only be described as unique, the citizens of Savannah, Georgia are in for a whimsical evening. A Sweet Sixteen celebration of two unlikely ‘sisters’, hardly days apart in age, is set to transpire this Saturday, open to the public.
The stars of the party are an uncommon duo: Patty, a McDonald’s cheeseburger, and Pammy, a Twinkie. Routinely celebrated by their caretaker Rubi McGrory, these “sisters” hold the unusual distinction of being inanimate food items procured nearly sixteen years ago. Aged two days apart, Patty, the elder, often takes center stage in family celebrations, but both ‘girls’ share a unique bond.
The party, set to have an 80s prom theme, promises to provide its attendees a fun-filled, unique experience. “It’s completely absurd but it’s fun,” admitted McGrory, who’s counting down to the big event.
Visitors can expect to see the birthday ‘girls’ in special outfits, befitting of prom queens. Last year, the ‘sisters’ were decked in custom birth-date bedazzled dresses. As for this year’s outfits, attendees will have to wait until the party.
More McDonald’s items are part of the family, including chicken nuggets who, though younger, have personalities of their own. McGrory remarked that some of them can show a bit of an attitude. However, all are considered as a part of the ‘sisterhood’.
While it can be considered as a bizarre spectacle by some, McGrory insists on the importance of seeking joy in the absurd. She encourages people to attend, stating “For the rest of your life you get to tell people oh I went to a birthday party for a 16 year old cheeseburger.”
She believes that Pammy and Patty, and their other McDonald’s item compatriots, teach us to not take ourselves too seriously, and always search for opportunities where humor could break the monotony of life.
Undoubtedly, it will be a memorable Saturday night for Savannah’s residents. The city is set to buzz with unusual, exciting energy as it gets ready to celebrate the 16thbirthday of Patty and Pammy, arguably the city’s most unusual twins.
