Sunny Weather and Upcoming Citizen Input Meetings in Columbia

Sunny Skies and Community Conversations in Columbia

Hey there, Columbia! If you’re stepping outside today, you’re in for a treat. After some cloudy moments this morning, the sun is breaking through and we’ll be basking under generally clear skies this afternoon. The mercury is expected to hit around 45°F, with gentle northern winds blowing at just 5 to 10 mph. Pretty perfect day for a stroll or maybe some time in the park! Just remember, it’s going to get pretty chilly tonight, dipping down to a brisk 21°F. So, grab that warm jacket before heading out this evening.

Time to Make Your Voice Heard!

Now, while you’re enjoying this lovely weather, there’s something important happening around town that deserves your attention! The city is gearing up for a series of citizen input meetings over the next two weeks, and local officials want to hear from YOU. These meetings are part of the Consolidated Action Plan that the Community Development Department is required to prepare every five years. It might sound a little technical, but it basically means the city is putting together a strategy to guide community development and improve our city for everyone!

So, what does that mean for you? Well, the city is looking for feedback to identify priority needs in our community. That could include everything from housing issues to local services that could be improved. They’re doing some in-depth assessments about demographics, fair housing, and market analysis, but they also want to get the scoop straight from the people who live here—yes, that’s you!

Mark Your Calendars!

Here’s the schedule for the upcoming meetings:

  • Council District 1: Citizen Input Meeting on December 4, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Print Building, 3907 Ensor Avenue, Columbia, SC 29203
  • Council District 3: Citizen Input Meeting on December 5, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Melrose Park Community Center, 1500 Fairview Drive, Columbia, SC 29205
  • Council District 4: Citizen Input Meeting on December 9, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at 1117 Brandon Avenue, Columbia, SC 29209
  • Council District 2: Citizen Input Meeting on December 12, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Charles R. Drew Wellness Center, 2101 Walker Solomon Way, Columbia, SC 29204

Whether you’re a long-time resident or new to Columbia, your input is vital! You can also fill out a community survey online, and guess what? It’s available in both Spanish and English! Your insights will help shape the future of our community, so don’t miss out on this opportunity to have your say.

Stay Engaged!

Columbia is changing and growing, and it takes a village—YOUR village—to make it the best it can be. So, whether you’re attending the meetings or filling out that survey, make sure your voice is heard! Let’s work together to create a bright future for our city.

And remember, if you’re planning on attending one of these meetings, you may want to bundle up for the chilly weather as the evenings will be cold. Happy December, Columbia! Let’s embrace this time to connect with our community and enjoy what our city has to offer.
