Sunny Day Disrupted by Attempted Murder in Wagener, SC

Sunny Day Turns Violent in Wagener

Wagener, SC – It was a beautiful sunny morning in Wagener on October 14, 2024, with the high temperature reaching around 80°F and clear skies overhead. Families were out enjoying the weather, but the peace of the day was shattered by a shocking turn of events at a local business on Pond Branch Road.

Understanding the Incident

According to reports from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Office, Howard Fogle Jr., a 73-year-old resident of Wagener, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The situation escalated on Thursday morning when Fogle visited a business where he had some work being done.

After some back-and-forth between Fogle and an employee regarding the turnaround time for the job, Fogle suddenly drew a pistol and fired multiple shots at the employee. The man was seriously injured, struck multiple times, and had to be rushed to a nearby hospital. Thankfully, reports from the medical team indicate that he is expected to make a full recovery.

A Quick Response

Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon detailed how the swift actions of law enforcement helped in apprehending Fogle. Thanks to a service agreement between the business and Fogle, along with security camera footage, authorities quickly identified him as the shooter. The dramatic events unfolded around 11 A.M., after which Fogle fled the scene and returned to his home in Wagener.

With determination, Aiken County deputies and Wagener police worked together to locate Fogle. In a matter of time, he was arrested at his residence without further incident. Following his arrest, he was transported to the Lexington County Detention Center.

Impact on the Community

This disturbing incident comes as a shock to the small tight-knit community of Wagener, where most residents feel safe. People usually enjoy their days under the warm sunshine, but an occurrence like this reminds everyone that violence can erupt in the unlikeliest of places. Local residents are left shaken, processing the reality of such an event happening in their neighborhood.

They encourage anyone with information to step forward and assist in ensuring justice is served. The community is coming together to support the victim and advocating for healing in the aftermath of this shocking event.

As we continue to enjoy this delightful sunny weather, it’s essential to reflect on the security and trust we put in our community.
