Summerville Says Goodbye to Two Beloved Residents

In the charming town of Summerville, South Carolina, the community is coming together to remember two individuals who have left their mark in profound ways. The passing of Harley Thomas Henderson at the age of 89 has touched many hearts this week, while the unexpected loss of 23-year-old Jerad Devin Rose has drawn the attention of friends and family alike.

Harley Thomas Henderson: A Life Well-Lived

Harley Thomas Henderson, known for his gentle spirit and kind-hearted nature, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 10, 2025. His life story began on April 23, 1935, in a small house in Franklin, North Carolina. Born to Tillery Thomas Henderson and Marguerite Fulton, Harley quickly became a pillar of strength and warmth for everyone around him.

The family has created a dedicated Life Tributes page where friends and loved ones are invited to share their memories of Harley. It’s a testament to how he touched lives throughout his years. The legacy he leaves behind is one of compassion, community spirit, and a firm belief in the power of kindness.

Jerad Devin Rose: A Bright Future Cut Short

In stark contrast, the community is still reeling from the shocking news of the passing of 23-year-old Jerad Devin Rose, who entered into eternal rest on February 18, 2025. Born on July 16, 2001, in Sullivan, Indiana, Devin was the beloved son of Jerad Rose and Nikki Miller Garwood. A proud graduate of Shakamak High School, he had recently taken up a role with the State Highway Survey Crew at the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

Devin had a playful spirit and enjoyed activities like playing Pokémon and Magic, along with a passion for golfing that brought him genuine joy. His absence has left a void not only in his family but also in the hearts of friends who will remember his zest for life.

A Celebration of Life for Devin

Those wanting to pay their respects are invited to a service honoring Devin at J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel in Charleston on February 24, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. During this time, friends and family can gather to share stories, reminisce, and support one another as they navigate through this difficult time of loss.

Remembering Family

Devin is survived by his father, Jerad D. Rose of Jasonville, Indiana, his mother Nikki Miller Garwood, and stepfather Jacob Garwood of Camden, South Carolina. He was cherished by his two sisters, Ali Mae Lacer and Zavery Ruth Cody, along with their families. His beloved grandmothers, Lavonna Rose of Jasonville and Angel Cown of Linton, Indiana, are mourning alongside the entire family.

Tragically, Devin’s grandfathers, David Dunigan and Robert Cown, as well as great grandparents Bob and Monna Irons, have passed before him. In light of these losses, the family is making arrangements for memorial contributions to be made to Dorchester Paws, a beloved local animal welfare organization that continues to support the community.

A Community United in Grief

The tight-knit community of Summerville is a little heavier with grief as it bids farewell to these two individuals. Harley’s legacy of kindness and hospitality paired with Devin’s youthful exuberance and passion for life remind everyone of the importance of supporting each other, sharing stories, and giving back to the community. As friends and family gather in remembrance, they will undoubtedly find strength in one another and the memories forged along the way.
