South Carolina women’s basketball has been chosen as one of four teams to participate in the 2025 Players Era Women’s Championship, a significant event announced today by Players Era, an EverWonder Studio company. The tournament will also feature teams from UCLA, Duke, and Texas, marking an exciting opportunity for athletes involved.
The Players Era Women’s Championship promises to be a unique platform that allows collegiate athletes to engage in at least $1 million in name, image, and likeness (NIL) activities outside of traditional competition. This event follows the successful launch of the men’s Players Era Festival, which took place in 2024. The women’s championship is set to occur in Las Vegas during Thanksgiving week, aligning with the next year’s Players Era Men’s Championship.
The competition will utilize a round robin format, ensuring that each participating team gets to play three notable matchups. Championship eligibility will be determined based on head-to-head records, followed by a series of tiebreakers that will take into account point differentials, total points scored, and points allowed.
South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley expressed enthusiasm regarding the event, stating, “We’re excited to be among the first women’s teams invited to play in the Players Era Women’s Championship. This innovative event brings together everything we’re looking for – quality games early in the season, a great location for fans to come and enjoy, and NIL opportunities for our players.”
Players Era aims to revolutionize the college basketball landscape, focusing on captivating fans and providing athletes unique opportunities through NIL agreements. Seth Berger, the CEO of Players Era, discussed the significance of the event: “Our women’s championship includes the same level of guaranteed NIL opportunities for the players as the men’s championship. Women’s college basketball continues to drive an unprecedented level of excitement and engagement, and this incredible lineup with four national championship contenders is going to transform what’s possible for women’s college basketball early-season competition.”
The South Carolina Gamecocks will return to action this week, completing their pre-holiday schedule with a game against Charleston Southern, scheduled for noon on December 19 at the Colonial Life Arena.
Fans and supporters can stay updated on developments regarding the program by visiting GamecocksOnline.com and following the team’s social media accounts (@GamecockWBB).
The Players Era Women’s Championship represents a groundbreaking opportunity for women’s college basketball, aiming to elevate the sport’s profile while providing student-athletes with compensation opportunities that align with modern standards. With established teams like South Carolina taking part, the event is shaping up to be a highly anticipated addition to the college basketball calendar in 2025.
