Columbia, S.C. — The air is buzzing with excitement as the 2024 South Carolina State Fair prepares to kick off this Wednesday! After a year of hard work and planning, vendors and staff are putting on the finishing touches, ready to welcome thousands of fairgoers for a fun-filled experience.
“We really work on this all year,” expressed South Carolina State Fair General Manager Nancy Smith. “I think it’s important for folks to know we don’t just start this now.” The anticipation is palpable as crews finalize preparations, getting food stalls set up and rides checked for safety. Everything is in motion to ensure a smooth opening day.
One exciting highlight this year is the introduction of Deep Fried Tacos, a vendor making its fair debut. James Staub, the owner, shared, “We had a couple of days of driving back and forth with some equipment, showed up here full force since Friday, and from there on out, we’ve been pecking away at it with the crew.” As the team puts the final touches on their setup, including getting their computers and iPads ready, visitors can look forward to grabbing this tasty treat during their visit.
In an effort to enhance the experience for attendees, the fair has made significant changes to the traffic flow. Smith explained, “We’ve added entrances and exits to our main gates, which are gates 6 and 10, and we have a new gate on George Rogers Boulevard, kind of across the street from Key Road that will be an entry gate, that’s never been before.” Additionally, Gate 8 will now serve as an extra exit gate, ensuring fairgoers can enter and exit as easily as possible.
Safety is a top priority this year, and fair organizers have implemented increased security measures. Expect to see walk-through metal detectors, enhanced lighting, and additional cameras throughout the fairgrounds. Furthermore, a new clear bag policy will be in effect to streamline the entry process. One key change pertains to the youth admission policy; now, all visitors under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian aged 21 or older, not just during evening hours. This policy will be in place all day on Fridays and Saturdays.
This year’s fair theme, “46 Reasons to Celebrate SC,” shines a spotlight on the state’s 46 counties. Seasonal exhibits will showcase the unique offerings and attractions from each county, ensuring that visitors leave with a deeper understanding and appreciation for South Carolina’s rich culture and history.
The 2024 South Carolina State Fair is set to take place from October 9 to October 20 at the State Fairgrounds in Columbia. It’s a wonderful opportunity to make memories with friends, family, and of course, enjoy all the thrilling rides and delicious treats. Grab your tickets and prepare for an unforgettable experience filled with fun, food, and festivities!
So whether you’re a lifelong fairgoer or planning to visit for the first time, get ready for all the fun that awaits at this year’s South Carolina State Fair!
