COLUMBIA, S.C.— The annual South Carolina State Fair’s Ride of Your Life Scholarship program has selected 53 high school seniors across the Palmetto State as this year’s recipients. These students have been granted $10,000 scholarships each to help fund their higher education in South Carolina institutions.
“We’re thrilled to announce this year’s scholarship recipients and to invest in these students’ futures,” shared Nancy Smith, South Carolina State Fair general manager. “Our scholarship program is at the heart of what we do here at the South Carolina State Fair, and supporting future scholars from our state means a great deal to our organization.”
Among the recipients, 13 students are from the Midlands region. These include Emory Peay from W.J. Keenan High School, Jackston Nance from Orangeburg High School for Health Professions, Gabrielle Jourdain from Calhoun Academy, and Charles Boyd from Ridgeview High School. Others are Stella Miller from Camden High School, Tyus Armstrong from Fairfield Central High School, Brennen Banks from Mid Carolina High School, Drayden Young from Blythewood High School, Joshua Wilder from Lexington High School, Jayne Ricard from Pelion High School, Countess Hodges from Richland Northeast High School, Caroline Easterling from Ben Lippen School, and Tristan Berzins from Cardinal Newman High School.
Due to a $34,000 donation from Circle K and EMC Tickets, the fair managed to award three additional scholarships, raising the total number of recipients from 50 to 53.
Applicants for the Ride of Your Life Scholarship had to respond to a unique question in their application essay: “If you could have a theme song, what would it be and why?” Beyond the creative response, the recipients must meet certain criteria to retain their scholarships. They are required to use the funds at a South Carolina university, college, or institution, maintain a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, and enroll in no less than 30 credit hours each academic year to receive funding for that year.
