Exciting talent emerging for the Gamecocks' 2025 recruiting class

Columbia, South Carolina – Excitement is buzzing at the University of South Carolina as the Gamecocks have announced a spectacular 2025 recruiting class. This year’s lineup features a mix of outstanding local athletes, with the highlight being the signing of four-star wide receiver Donovan Murph. According to the latest rankings, the Gamecocks’ recruiting class stands proudly at No. 20 nationally, while securing the No. 12 spot in the SEC, as noted by 247Sports Composite rankings. This is a remarkable achievement, showcasing the hard work and dedication that Head Coach Shane Beamer and his coaching staff have invested in building a competitive team.
Standing at an impressive 6 feet 2 inches and weighing 190 pounds, Donovan Murph hails from Irmo High School just a stone’s throw away from USC’s campus. Murph made the decision to reclassify from the class of 2026 to the 2025 class. His commitment to become a Gamecock was formally announced on January 2, just before the much-anticipated 2024 Under Armour All-America Game.
The signing ceremony took place in the auditorium of his high school, where he proudly put pen to paper and joined the ranks of the Gamecock family. Murph’s choice to join South Carolina over offers from powerhouse schools like Clemson, Ole Miss, Colorado, and Tennessee speaks volumes about his confidence in the USC program and its future.
In his junior year, Murph showcased his skills by leading his high school team to a remarkable 13-2 record. He recorded an astonishing 96 receptions for 1,328 yards and 12 touchdowns. This success followed a stellar sophomore season, where he had 57 catches for 1,084 yards and 17 touchdowns. Apart from football, Murph is also a multi-sport athlete, participating in basketball and track & field.
Murph is not the only standout talent joining the Gamecocks. Coach Beamer has already welcomed several new recruits who bring incredible experience and skill. An offensive lineman from Duluth High School in Georgia has already enrolled. This young athlete helped anchor his high school team’s offensive line.
A tight end from Hammond School in Columbia will be joining in the summer after wrapping up his graduation. He was key in his high school team’s success, contributing to a fourth consecutive SCISA state championship with impressive stats of 38 catches for 618 yards and six touchdowns.
Additionally, a talented defensive back from Maury High School in Norfolk, Virginia, has joined the program. With first-team all-state honors under his belt, he played a crucial role in leading his team to a perfect 16-0 season, culminating in a dramatic 5A state championship win. A defensive line prospect from Newton High School in Conyers, Georgia, is also set to bring his talent to the Gamecocks this summer.
The recruits don’t stop there. The Gamecocks have also secured a linebacker from Dutch Fork High School in Irmo, SC, who will bring along a fantastic record of 96 tackles in helping his team achieve a perfect record.
As a cherry on top, a wide receiver from Ridge View High School in Columbia, currently recovering from a knee injury, is expected to make an impact when he returns. With the addition of a versatile long snapper and kicking specialist, the Gamecocks are clearly prepared for an exciting season ahead.
