South Carolina Joins 19-State Energy Lawsuit Against California and Four Other States

South Carolina Attorney General, Alan Wilson, recently announced his state’s involvement in a staggering 19-state coalitional lawsuit led by Alabama against California, Connecticut, Minnesota, New Jersey, and Rhode Island. The suit challenges the constitutionality of these states’ efforts to control America’s energy future.

The five defendant states are mired in controversy for instigating unprecedented litigation against some of the country’s most crucial energy companies. They argue these companies contribute to an alleged “climate crisis” and are demanding billions of dollars in damages.

According to Wilson, California and the other states may impose tremendous financial penalties and coercive remedies that could transform energy and fuel consumption and production across the country. The 19-state coalition seeks to address these grave constitutional issues by appealing to the Supreme Court.

Delta Air Lines Partners with Others for Hydrogen Fuel Study

Delta Air Lines is teaming up with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), Airbus, and Plug Power to perform a feasibility study on hydrogen fueling in a bid to pursue a more sustainable travel future.

The investigation will focus on defining the operational viability, infrastructure, and security requirements for using hydrogen as a potential fuel source for future aircraft operations at ATL. The findings will contribute to the understanding of supply and infrastructure requirements for developing hydrogen hubs at airports worldwide.

Lindsay Leonard Named 2024 SCMA Woman of the Year

Lindsay Leonard, the senior director for Government Operations at Boeing South Carolina, has been named the 2024 South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance (SCMA) Woman of the Year. The announcement was made at the annual Palmetto Women’s Manufacturing Forum hosted by Nephron Pharmaceuticals Corporation in West Columbia.

Leonard’s recognition stems from her contributions to the state’s manufacturing sector. She was praised by SCMA President and CEO, Sara Hazzard, for leaving an “indelible mark on South Carolina”.

Charleston County Opens Funding Applications for Non-profit Organizations

Charleston County, South Carolina, has begun accepting applications from non-profit, 501(c) organizations seeking funding from the County Contributions Program. The funding program includes Community Investment and Local and State Accommodations Tax funding.

The funding opportunities are available for costs incurred between 1 July 2024, and 30 June 2025. Successful applicants must use all awarded funding by 30 June 2025. Final funding and allocation amounts will ultimately require approval by County Council.
