Woman Suffers Shark Bite on Hilton Head Island
SAVANNAH, GA – A female beachgoer sustained a shark bite on Hilton Head Island this Monday. The incident took place roughly around noon, near beach marker 26 in Sea Pines between Surf Scoter Road and Snowy Egret Road, according to Shore Beach Service.
Swimmers Cleared From the Area
Following the incident, swimmers were asked to leave the waters for about half an hour. Despite the scare, the woman involved decided against any Emergency Medical Service (EMS) treatment or ambulance transport. It seems that the sustianed wounds were on the foot and, on initial assessments, they appeared consistent with a shark bite.
Possible Prior Shark Attack
This event may not stand as the year’s first shark attack on Hilton Head Island. Earlier this year, another event was reported as a potential shark attack. However, the incident remains unconfirmed as such.
“We had something that was a possible bite earlier this year, but it was never confirmed,” stated Mike Wagner from Shore Beach Service.
