SCDOT to Hold Public Information Meeting in Beaufort County

In a bid to enhance public safety, the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is planning a drop-in public information session on August 1, 2024 in Beaufort County. The aim of the meeting is to discuss the proposed intersection improvement at Laurel Bay Road, and Stanley Farm Road.

The meeting, set to take place from 5 to 7 p.m., will be held at Burton Wells County Park situated at 1 Middleton Recreation Drive in Beaufort. The public is invited to learn more about the proposal and share their views.

A Drop-In Style Meeting

In a break from the conventional practice, SCDOT has opted for a drop-in style meeting. The decision means there won’t be a formal presentation during the session. Local residents will be able to join the meeting at their convenience within the specified time frame.

During the meeting, SCDOT representatives will be available to discuss the project and listen to feedback from the community to address any concerns.

Improving Safety through Intersection Modifications

As part of the proposed project, SCDOT intends to convert the intersection at S.C. 116 (Laurel Bay Road) and S-597 (Stanley Farm Road) into a single lane roundabout. The goal of this initiative is to reduce the severity and frequency of crashes at the site.

These modifications have been considered following a data-driven approach under the Highway Safety Improvement Program, aimed at identifying opportunities to enhance safety through infrastructure improvements.

Additional Information

Individuals interested in learning more about this proposal are encouraged to visit the dedicated webpage containing further details about the proposed modifications at Laurel Bay Road and Stanley Farm Road. Other ongoing projects from SCDOT across the region can also be found on the SCDOT’s public information meeting webpage.

Encouraging Public Participation

The drop-in style public information meeting is part of SCDOT’s efforts to increase public participation in development projects. Interactive sessions like this provide an opportunity for the public to engage directly with the planning process and voice their concerns or suggestions, impacting significant infrastructure developments in the region.
