Former SC DMV Clerk Arrested for Embezzlement
In St. George, South Carolina, a former clerk at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has been arrested and charged with embezzlement. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), announced the arrest of Shayla Singleton-Drayton, 44, on Wednesday, August 28.
Embezzlement of Public Funds
Singleton-Drayton is primarily charged with embezzlement of public funds. As a customer service representative in the St. George office, she allegedly embezzled a total of $19,451. The period of the reported embezzlement occurred from December 1, 2022, through March 7, 2024, according to the affidavit.
Admission of Guilt
Drayton admitted stealing the money when interrogated by SLED agents. She justified her actions by stating that she used the pilfered funds to pay for her personal bills and expenses.
Booking and Further Proceedings
