Orangeburg residents came together on October 25 to take part in Save A Life Day, an event aimed at raising awareness about substance misuse and providing vital resources to those in need. The atmosphere was filled with hope and support, as The Courage Center set up shop in the parking lot of Kimbrell’s Furniture to spread the word about overdose prevention.
With a warm smile and open arms, the team at The Courage Center made it their mission to ensure that the community had access to essential information and tools, such as Narcan, the life-saving antidote for opioid overdose. In a quick but impactful outreach mission, they successfully distributed approximately 25 Narcan kits to concerned community members who either drove by or stopped to talk.
The Courage Center, located at 950 Holly St., has become a beacon of hope for those navigating the challenges of substance misuse. This dedicated recovery community organization offers a variety of programs designed to support individuals on their journeys toward healing. Excitingly, they will soon launch All Recovery meetings starting on November 19. Open to everyone, these gatherings aim to foster connection and provide a space for sharing experiences and resources. If you’re interested, don’t hesitate to give them a call at (803) 987-8700.
Additionally, in what highlights the challenges many families face, a local father has been charged after his 9-month-old son tested positive for fentanyl. Law enforcement officials are working diligently to address the situation, which came to light during a traffic stop. This incident resulted in the seizure of various illegal narcotics, alarming evidence of the ongoing struggles with addictive substances in our community.
