Flau’jae Johnson, the revered Louisiana State University athlete, marked her homecoming to Savannah with her second annual Back to School Giveback Festival, a tremendous success over the weekend.
Johnson began the festival by distributing a variety of essentials to students hailing from the Coastal Empire. Backpacks, clothing, shoes, and headphones were among the numerous items generously handed out at the Enmarket Arena. The festival was aimed to equip students with necessary supplies, preparing them for the upcoming academic year.
Alongside the practical gifts, the event was structured to be an enjoyable community gathering with various entertainment options. The festival featured lively music, a variety of food stalls, engaging games, bounce houses, face painting, and the promise of surprise prizes. It was a true day of joy and celebration for the Savannah community.
Entering her third season at LSU, Johnson fondly recalls her Savannah roots. Through the festival, she intends to inspire positivity in the children of the city she once called home. Johnson believes in the importance of giving back, stating her aim was to supply the children with a positive outlook of their city. It was a demonstration of her deep care for her hometown community and her commitment to its future.
By the end of the event, as many as 1,000 kids returned home not only with full backpacks of school essentials and uniforms but also with the affirming experiences of the day. Johnson embraced the newfound possibility to help her city, maintaining that her role in supporting as many families and students as she could, was accomplished.
The success of the second annual Back to School Giveback Festival, once again, proved Johnson’s dedication and passion to serve her community, leaving Savannah waiting in anticipation for next year.
