The Savannah Philharmonic has announced the appointment of their new Concertmaster for the forthcoming 2024-2025 season – distinguished violinist, JoAnna Ferrer. Ferrer, a member of the New Jersey Symphony, has earned recognition for her exceptional talent and leadership. She will debut as Concertmaster during the 16th season opener, titled ‘Romantic Rachmaninoff,’ on the evening of August 24.
Ferrer has performed as a soloist with astounding ensembles like The Philadelphia Orchestra, Goteborgs Symfoniker, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and the Israel Philharmonic. She has collaborated with notable conductors, including James Conlon, James DePreist, and Lorin Maazel. In past seasons, she served as the guest concertmaster of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and toured with revered troupes like New York Philharmonic, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and National Arts Centre Orchestra of Canada.
Beyond classical mastery, Ferrer is also an active Celtic musician, with performances on both acoustic and electric instruments in cities around the world. Her debut album, “Liminal Paths,” was launched in 2022. Besides, she has worked with acclaimed Irish and Scottish artists like Alasdair Fraser, Andy Lamy, and Natalie Haas.
In the realm of chamber music, Ferrer has performed with luminaries such as Pinchas Zukerman, Emanuel Ax, and Itzhak Perlman. She also represented the United States at the Kyoto International Music Festival and performed as a featured artist at the International Chamber Music Festival in Lima, Peru.
Ferrer is an alumnus of the Perlman Music Program and the National Arts Centre Young Artist Programme, where she studied under the guidance of Pinchas Zukerman. She completed her master of music degree at The Juilliard School under Glenn Dicterow, the former concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic. She now resides in northeastern Vermont with her husband, Darryl Kubian, along with their slew of musical instruments and beloved farm animals.
Speaking on this new addition to the Philharmonic, the Executive Director, Dr. Amy Williams, expressed her delight and stated, “Her extraordinary musicianship and commitment to excellence align perfectly with our vision. We are confident that she will inspire both our orchestra and our community.”
JoAnna Ferrer’s entrance into the Savannah Philharmonic as Concertmaster will occur at the 16th season opener, “Romantic Rachmaninoff,” on Saturday, August 24, at the Lucas Theatre for the Arts. Community members are invited to welcome Ferrer and experience her remarkable talent on this special occasion.
