Columbia, S.C. — Exciting news for residents and businesses in Richland County! Starting this coming Monday, September 9, both the Lower Richland Drop-Off Center and the Clemson Road Recycling Center will be operating under a new, more straightforward schedule. The intention behind this change is to make recycling and junk disposal easier for everyone in the community.
From now on, you can visit the Lower Richland Drop-Off Center, located at 10531 Garners Ferry Rd. (call them at (803) 776-2324), and the Clemson Road Recycling Center, at 900 Clemson Rd. (phone number (803) 576-2440), anytime from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday through Saturday. Both centers will be closed on Sundays and Mondays, allowing staff to do necessary maintenance and prepare for the upcoming days.
This change comes from a desire to minimize confusion among residents and businesses that utilize these centers and to better utilize the staff and resources available. So now, instead of juggling different schedules, you can pop by during the same hours every week!
If you’re wondering about the C&D Landfill Drop-Off Center at 1070 Caughman Rd. N in Columbia (just call them at (803) 576-2390 if you have questions), you’ll be happy to know that their hours remain unchanged! They’re open 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays, and closed on Sundays. So, if you’ve got construction or demolition debris, those hours are still the same.
Now that you’ve noted the new hours, you might be asking, “What can I actually drop-off at these centers?” Great question! The Clemson and Lower Richland centers are designed for residential drop-offs only, and they accept a variety of materials. However, standard household garbage, as well as clothing and shoes, aren’t allowed. For those items, you’ll need to head to the Waste Management Landfill, which is located at 1047 Highway Church Rd. in Elgin (feel free to call (803) 744-3345 for more info).
To make recycling and disposal as straightforward as possible, it’s always helpful to clarify what’s acceptable ahead of time. If you’re new to the recycling game or just need a little refresher, be sure to check with the centers directly or keep an eye out for community guidelines they may post online.
We all play a role in keeping our community clean and sustainable, so stay informed about what’s happening in our local recycling programs. Whether your household is a long-time recycling champion or you’re just getting started, these new hours are a great opportunity to make recycling a regular part of your routine.
So, mark your calendars and plan your trips accordingly! Remember, together we can keep Richland County beautiful and environmentally friendly. Let’s make the most of these new drop-off hours and do our part in reducing waste and enhancing recycling efforts!
