Skaters showcase their skills at the Friarsgate Skate Park in Rawls Creek Park, a vibrant community hub in Irmo.
Residents of Irmo are saddened to hear that the restrooms at Rawls Creek Park have been closed following acts of vandalism. Town officials are already working on repairing the facilities and hope to provide an update soon. Despite this setback, the park remains a popular destination for locals, offering a range of amenities including the popular Friarsgate Skate Park and dog parks for furry friends.
In the lovely town of Irmo, some unfortunate news has come to light that has residents talking. Yes, the restrooms at Rawls Creek Park have had to be closed down due to acts of vandalism. It’s a bit of a bummer for locals who enjoy the park, but fear not! Town officials are already on the case, planning much-needed repairs to get those restrooms back up and running as soon as possible. An update is expected in the days to follow, letting everyone know when they can expect the facilities to reopen.
Rawls Creek Park is more than just restrooms—it’s a lively community hub that stretches across an impressive nine acres. This park is home to the fantastic Friarsgate Skate Park, which opened last summer and has been a significant hit since it’s opening. With its spacious 8500 square-foot layout, the skate park is not just for traditional skateboarders but is also designed inclusively for adaptive athletes. Everyone, regardless of ability, can enjoy the thrill of skating!
Funded through the efforts of the Town of Irmo and the dedicated Friarsgate Skate Park Committee that kicked off the project back in 2021, this skate park truly has become a point of pride for the community. Key figures in the initiative, like local advocates, helped raise awareness and get folks engaged in the project.
But wait, there’s more! Besides the skate park, Rawls Creek is home to various amenities that cater to everyone. If you’re a pet lover, you’ll appreciate the well-maintained small and large dog parks, which offer a safe play space for your furry friends. And for those with a green thumb, there’s even a community garden where residents can cultivate their own little slice of nature.
Feeling like a walk? Take a stroll along the walking trails that wind through this beautiful park, inviting you to enjoy the fresh air and perhaps catch a glimpse of some local wildlife. It’s clear that Rawls Creek Park is designed to cater to a broad audience, allowing every community member to find their niche.
As we look ahead, exciting things are on the calendar! The much-anticipated Boardr Series national skateboarding contest is set to take place at the Friarsgate Skate Park on March 28 and 29. What’s particularly attractive about this event is that the entry fee for participants is only $50. And if you’re new to skateboarding, your entry fee is on the house! Spectators can attend without any charge, making it an excellent opportunity for families and friends to gather and enjoy some thrilling action.
The fantastic design and construction of the skate park were brought to life by 5th Pocket Skateparks, a reputable company based in Pennsylvania. Thanks to the inspiring support from local businesses, including Loveland Coffee and Blue Tile Skate Shop, the park has truly become a community treasure, providing free outdoor recreation for everyone. This initiative serves as a safe haven for children and youth to engage in autonomous activities, stepping away from traditional team sports.
Despite the temporary setback with the restrooms, Rawls Creek Park remains a vibrant space for everyone in Irmo to enjoy. The community is eagerly looking forward to the upcoming reopening, the national skating event, and, of course, more days of fun in the sun!
