Rainy Day in Columbia Paves the Way for an Artsy Night at Arts & Draughts!

Hello Columbia! Get Ready for a Rainy Day and an Artsy Night!

Good morning, Columbia! If you’re stepping out today, be sure to grab your umbrella because we’re in for a steady rain this morning, with showers expected to continue into the afternoon. According to the forecast, we’ll be looking at a high of 74°F, which sounds cozy, but with a 100% chance of rain, you may want to stay dry!

As we soak up the water, let’s not forget that we could see around half an inch of rainfall throughout the day, which means localized flooding is a possibility. So, if you’re out and about, make sure to keep an eye on those puddles!

As evening rolls in, we’ll still have those cloudy skies hanging over us, along with a chance of a few late showers, cooling down to a low of 66°F. The wind will be light and variable, so it might be a good time for a cozy night in—but wait, don’t cancel your plans just yet!

Exciting Night Ahead: Arts & Draughts at the Columbia Museum of Art!

That’s right! This coming Friday, November 8, the beloved Arts & Draughts event is back at the Columbia Museum of Art, and it’s going to be a fantastic night! From 7:00 to 11:00 p.m., this event will showcase the major fall exhibition, French Moderns, alongside a full lineup of performances, dancing, and some amazing art activities.

Wilson Bame, the museum’s associate director of engagement, said it best: “Much like the exhibition, we’re excited to offer a broad array of artistic fun for the night.” So expect to see a roving puppeteer, tuba-playing wizards, and cirque-style dancers bringing a flavor of the French market—and if that’s not enough, get ready for DJs spinning tunes from Daft Punk in the Loft!

Among the highlights, puppeteer Tarish Pipkins will bring his whimsical abstract moving sculptures to life, turning the stage into a magical canvas. Plus, you won’t want to miss live music from talented artists like Darby Wilcox, a Greenville-based singer-songwriter, and local favorites like Slow Funeral and the psychedelic grunge band, Orange Doors.

For those who love a good dance party, Folk Tech will be spinning DJ sets on the first floor and hosting a silent disco on the second. How fun does that sound?

Food and Fun Await!

As you enjoy the art and entertainment, don’t forget to grab a bite! Local food vendors La Dolce Vita Pizza, Peace of Soul Vegan Kitchen, and Farmers Market Xchange will be there to satisfy your hunger—because let’s be honest, there’s nothing better than art and food!

Now, let’s talk about the cost—it’s $15 per person, but if you’re a member, it’s only $8! And if you’re looking to save some bucks, consider volunteering for a short shift, and you’ll get in for free.

So, whether you choose to brave the rain or soak up the artistic vibes at the museum, Columbia has a little something for everyone today. Stay dry, have fun, and make the most of what our vibrant city offers! Don’t miss out on the fun and excitement this Friday—grab some friends and head to Arts & Draughts for a night to remember!

Happy rainy day, Columbia!
