Pyramid Contracting Hailed for Innovative Office Renovation
Approaching its two-year anniversary in the newly renovated corporate headquarters, Pyramid Contracting LLC has made headlines with its innovative transformation of an old pre-engineered metal building into a sleek, modern workspace.
Based in Irmo, South Carolina, Pyramid Contracting is a general contracting firm that undertook the ambitious project of expanding and renovating its aging headquarters building. However, the original site, constructed in the 1980s, presented a unique challenge, as it was a pre-engineered metal structure featuring metal wall panels and a 4-foot fascia around the perimeter, with an open soffit concealing gutters and downspouts.
Challenges and Solutions
According to Ryan Ward, the general construction manager at Pyramid, maintaining straight lines for an aesthetically unified appearance while integrating new and existing elements posed a significant challenge. This complication was especially evident when it came to addressing the emergence of an interior gutter system and planning a thorough solution to prevent potential water intrusion.
In response to these complexities, the team extended the existing concrete slab and erected a second exterior wall beyond the existing structure, aligning it with the original fascia. “Within this new cavity, we installed multiple downspouts and routed them underground to connect with storm drainage piping,” explained Ward.
