An unspeakable act of violence has occurred in Barnwell County, South Carolina, as a 17-year-old pregnant teen was allegedly brutally murdered, just days away from her date of delivering her baby.
The victim, identified as Maylashia Hogg, was reported missing and subsequently found dead on February 18 earlier this year. Heartbreakingly, officials reported that she was due to give birth to a girl, who she had named Londyn Charity, on February 14.
This past Monday, after an extensive and thorough investigation, officials announced the arrest of a suspect in connection to this horrifying crime.
Jacqueline Reid, a 62-year-old woman, has been charged with two counts of murder. Official arrest warrants reveal that she is believed to have repeatedly stabbed Hogg with a sharp-edged weapon.
The authorities discovered that Hogg was last seen in the vicinity of Reid’s residence. A subsequent search warrant of Reid’s home led to the uncovering of evidence that corroborates the charges of the crimes against her.
As of now, Reid has not yet entered a plea or, apparently, hired legal representation. The nature of any existing relationship between Reid and Hogg has not been disclosed by the authorities.
In this time of great sorrow, the local community has rallied together to mourn the tragic loss of both Hogg and her unborn child and to support each other in processing the shock of such a violent act occurring in their midst.
“Please keep Maylashia’s loved ones in your thoughts,” said Barnwell Police Chief Michael Butts. “We must continue to care for each other, to honor Maylashia and Londyn’s memories, and come together to heal.”
This heinous crime is a part of an unfortunate string of similar events that have been plaguing our nation. The discussions surrounding the actions that need to be taken to improve public safety and reduce the occurrence of such horrifying acts are growing more urgent each day.
As the community reels from this shocking incident, updates on Reid’s upcoming arraignment and subsequent legal proceedings will be continually provided. We aim to provide thorough, accurate, and timely reporting to keep our readers informed.
