Port Royal’s newest community asset, Beaufort County Library’s sixth branch, will open its doors to the public on Wednesday, August 21, at 2 p.m. The community’s enthusiasm and anticipation are palpable as the Grand Opening and Ribbon-Cutting Celebration draws closer, set to take place on Saturday, August 24.
The Ribbon-Cutting will commence at 10 a.m., followed by a community storytime and refreshments. Residents and visitors are welcomed to tour the new facility, engage in discussions with the library staff, register for a library card, and check out materials on offer.
Beaufort County Councilwoman, Alice Howard, lauded the public libraries as the heart of democracy during a news release. She emphasized that this new branch, named The Samuel E. Murray Library, will mirror Port Royal community’s unique character. The library is committed to supporting learning, leisure, and life, strengthening the spirit of mutual learning.
The Samuel E. Murray Library offers a myriad of resources for different demographic groups. The collections include over 5,000 materials catering to children, teenagers, and adults. Apart from books, visitors can find a variety of movies and more.
Fulfilling the community’s requirement for meeting spaces, the new library comprises dedicated meeting and conference rooms. Additionally, the branch is equipped with technological resources such as public computers and a self-service station for scanning, faxing, and emailing.
Lynne Miller, Chair of the Library Board of Trustees, expressed her delight at the project’s successful completion and acknowledged the County Council for their support in this venture.
The branch is set to operate from Monday to Thursday between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., and on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please note that the library will remain closed on Sundays.
