Port Royal in Beaufort County Inaugurates Its First Public Library

The historic town of Port Royal, a community in Beaufort County with a history spanning 462 years, celebrated a significant milestone this week with the opening of its very first public library.

Library: A New Hub for the Community

With the growing population of Port Royal crossing 16,000 residents, the new library is positioned as a hub for learning and community engagement. Beaufort County Library Director, Amanda Dickman, highlighted the significance of the library, stating, “What makes it special is that it’s in the heart of a thriving community, and it is going to be a place where people feel safe and heard and seen and valued.”

Features and Facilities at the Library

The library, which held its soft opening on Wednesday, houses a wide selection of books and movies. It also provides free Wi-Fi, public computers, a fax and scan machine, a meeting room, and a study room aiming to accommodate the varied needs of the community. The library’s inclusive nature caters to all ages, offering a haven for everyone from kids to adults to explore interests or embark on new literary journeys.

Grand Opening Celebrations

The library will officially open its doors with a grand celebration tomorrow, Saturday, August 24. The inauguration will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a story-time event for children and refreshments.

The establishment of this public library marks a significant stride towards fostering a culture of learning and community engagement in the historic town of Port Royal.
