Are you a pickleball enthusiast or someone just curious about the game? If so, you’re in luck! The charming city of Columbia is about to welcome a state-of-the-art pickleball facility that could very well change the way residents play and enjoy the sport. Yes, you heard it right! The Picklr, known as the world’s largest indoor pickleball franchiser, is setting up shop right here in our very own backyard.
The excitement is palpable, as The Picklr gears up to open its first location in South Carolina. While the official grand opening date remains under wraps, owners are aiming for a launch sometime this coming January. This is great news for the Midlands pickleball community, who have been eagerly waiting for a top-notch facility to call their own.
The Picklr is owned by WayMor Sports, and they’re not just stopping at Columbia. Plans are underway to open several other clubs across the Carolinas. With rights to operate 60 units in the southeastern US, they aim to grow that number to around 90-100 in the future. Now, that’s a pickleball expansion that could keep things fun and exciting!
What sets The Picklr apart from other clubs in the area? According to Jay Satori, co-founder and chief branding officer of The Picklr, they aim to deliver an unmatched experience for players, making every aspect of the facility meticulously thought out. “We liken ourselves to say we’re like the Apple of pickleball,” Satori stated, emphasizing the curated, premium experience they plan to create.
Every detail matters, from the light and calming colors on the courts to sound control features that minimize distractions. “It’s really in the details where we feel we sort of win the race,” Satori explained. “We’ve tried to think of every part of the experience, and we’re really excited to bring this one-of-a-kind experience to pickleball fans in Columbia.”
One of the innovative features of The Picklr is the signature ‘black box interior’, which uses all black walls and ceilings. This unique design enhances visibility for players, making it easier to spot the bright-colored pickleballs as they fly around during gameplay. Moreover, Satori mentioned a pending patent for a feature they call the ‘sound cloud’. It’s a fabric board designed to absorb sound while also housing lights and speakers, thereby reducing noise on the court by 35-40 percent. Now that’s fancy!
The Columbia Picklr facility is set to have 12 to 13 courts, along with a practical pro shop. There will also be plenty of opportunities for players to compete, as the facility plans to host Picklr leagues and various tournaments. And for tech-loving players, the Picklr app will allow members to make virtual court reservations.
