Hello, Columbia! It’s that time of the year again where you can expect a little bit of everything from Mother Nature. Today, November 5, 2024, we’re experiencing some patchy fog that might make your morning drive a bit of a challenge. But don’t worry; it should lift soon! If you step outside early, you might feel a slight mix of drizzle. Yes, rain is definitely on the menu today!
As the clock ticks on, expect the sky to remain cloudy with some more showers in the afternoon. Perfect weather for staying cozy inside! The high temperature will reach up to a warm 76°F, so a light jacket could be your best friend if you plan to venture out during the day.
The winds will be coming in from the southeast, blowing gently at speeds of about 5 to 10 mph. And, if we’re talking numbers, there’s a 70% chance you’ll feel those raindrops today. So grab an umbrella if you plan to be outdoors! We’re looking at a possible rainfall of about near a quarter of an inch, meaning some wet sidewalks and puddles for the kids to jump in later!
As the sun sets, we might get a brief break from the rain, transitioning to a partly cloudy evening before we close out the day with more clouds rolling in. The temperatures will take a dip with lows around 64°F tonight. Winds will lighten up quite a bit, turning light and variable, making for a calmer night ahead.
If you head over to the museum, you can explore four amazing floors filled with exhibits that showcase the rich history and contributions of South Carolinians. One exhibition to definitely check out is “Shared Sacrifice: SC in World War II.” This display honors the powerful stories of those from our state who made sacrifices during the war, featuring important history about the Double Victory campaign that highlighted the fight against fascism abroad and segregation back home.
One highlight includes the actual uniform worn by Ernest Henderson, Sr., a Tuskegee pilot who trained the legendary Tuskegee Airmen. That’s just one of the remarkable pieces waiting for you at the museum! Other artifacts include a flight helmet from a member of the famous Doolittle Raiders and a Red Cross Motor Corps uniform from a Spartanburg native.
These exhibitions tell the personal stories of wartime bravery and experiences that shaped not only South Carolina but the entire nation. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn and reflect on our shared history as a community.
But just a little heads up: the museum will be closed on Monday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day, so be sure to take advantage of the weekend offerings instead!
If you’re looking for more details, just visit the museum’s website – there’s so much history to discover!
Stay safe out there today, Columbia, and enjoy honoring our veterans this weekend!
