Exciting Times Ahead in Columbia with the Palmetto Peanut Boil!
As we roll into fall, the vibrant city of Columbia is buzzing with excitement! This Saturday, September 28, the streets will be filled with mouthwatering aromas, laughter, and the joyous sounds of celebration, all thanks to the return of the Palmetto Peanut Boil. This year marks a special milestone as the festival celebrates its 17th anniversary, and it promises to be bigger and better than ever!
A Festival That Grew from Humble Beginnings
What began as a simple back-yard gathering has blossomed into a renowned annual event that attracts thousands from across the Midlands. Folks come together to honor the beloved boiled peanut, which holds the title of the official snack of South Carolina. Whether you’re a long-time fan or a newcomer to this cherished tradition, there’s something for everyone at the Palmetto Peanut Boil.
A Feast for Everyone
One of the highlights of the festival is the thrilling cooking competition. Local teams put their best, or should we say “boiled,” foot forward as they battle it out for the prestigious title of Best Boiled Peanut in South Carolina. With so many unique flavors and recipes in the mix, attendees will be delighted to sample an array of delicious boiled peanuts. So, whether you like ’em spicy, traditional, or something a bit more unique, you’re in for a treat!
Fun for the Whole Family
This family-friendly festival is free to attend, making it a great way to enjoy a day out without breaking the bank. Hosted by the wonderful folks at Animal Mission, the event promises to be fun-filled with live music, tasty food, refreshing beverages, and a lively atmosphere. Plus, the best part? You can bring your leashed furry friends along to join in the festivities!
Music That Will Move You
As you savor those delicious peanuts, enjoy an exciting lineup of live music throughout the day! Get ready to groove to the beats of:
- DJ VooDoo Child from 12 PM to 2 PM
- Whiskey Tango Revue from 2:15 PM to 4 PM
- Ashes of Old Ways from 4:15 PM to 6 PM
Giving Back to the Community
Not only is the Palmetto Peanut Boil a day of fun, but it’s also a wonderful opportunity to support a great cause. Animal Mission, a dedicated nonprofit organization, will receive 100% of all proceeds from the festival. Their hard work improves the lives of homeless pets, providing them with spay and neuter vouchers and making improvements at the Columbia Animal Shelter. It’s refreshing to see an event that brings joy to the community while also caring for our furry friends!
The Weather’s Looking Fine!
While you prepare for the festival, don’t forget about the weather! The forecast suggests a mix of clouds and sunshine throughout the day, with a slight chance of thunderstorms. It’s going to be hot, with a high temperature of around 91°F. So, dress comfortably, and don’t forget your sunscreen and perhaps a light jacket for the evening, as temperatures will drop to around 71°F!
