Lexington to Unveil Old Mill Pond Trail with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on March 13, 2024

Lexington Celebrates a New Chapter with the Old Mill Pond Trail

Lexington, SC – Exciting news is blowing through the air in Lexington as the town prepares to unveil its much-anticipated Old Mill Pond Trail! Mark your calendars for Friday, March 13, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., when the ribbon cutting ceremony will officially commence this beautiful new addition to our community.

A Special Ceremony Awaits

Hazel Livingston, along with members of the Town Council, is gearing up to celebrate this milestone. The ceremony will take place at 711 East Main Street, Lexington, SC. Once the ribbon is cut, the trail will be open for everyone to enjoy.

The Beauty of Old Mill Pond Trail

The Old Mill Pond Trail features a charming 1.15-mile paved loop meandering around the lovely Lexington Mill Pond. Imagine yourself strolling along, taking in the sights and sounds of nature while crossing various bridges and resting at several outlooks and seating areas designed for your comfort. It’s not just a trail; it’s an opportunity to reconnect with our stunning surroundings, right in the heart of Lexington.

A Vision Realized

Going back to 2012, this trail was part of the Town’s Vision Plan aimed at enhancing outdoor community spaces. The vision saw a significant setback due to the catastrophic flooding in 2015, which unfortunately damaged many local dams, including the earthen dam of the Old Mill. For almost nine years, the pond remained empty, longing for restoration. But now, thanks to a committed public/private partnership, that vision is finally coming to life!

Join the Celebration

The ribbon cutting ceremony is not just for the guests of honor; the public is warmly invited to join in the celebration. It’s a great opportunity to meet your neighbors, learn about future activities, and most importantly – be among the first to enjoy the trail! Grab your walking shoes, bring the family, and prepare to make some memories.

More Than Just a Trail

This new trail is an excellent addition for everyone in our community, whether you enjoy a peaceful weekend walk, relaxing afternoons tucked away in nature, or perhaps a new jogging path. As you stroll, you might even see some of our local wildlife or maybe spot a few children playing and enjoying the fresh air. It’s not just a place for exercise; it’s a place for bonding, inspiration, and delight.

  • Date of Ceremony: Friday, March 13, 2024
