Exciting News for Lexington: The Old Mill Pond Trail is Open!

Hey there, folks of Lexington! We have some really great news to share that’s sure to bring a smile to your faces. After years of dreaming, planning, and overcoming some pretty big challenges, the Old Mill Pond Trail has officially opened its doors to the public! This past Friday morning, the town held a delightful ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate this eagerly awaited addition to our community.

A Journey Years in the Making

Now, you might be wondering, how did we get here? Well, the story goes back to the town’s 2012 Vision Plan, where the idea for a lovely walking trail around the Old Mill Pond was born. However, as many of you might remember, the devastating flooding in 2015 put a significant damper on these plans. Not only did many areas experience terrible damage, but the Old Mill’s earthen dam was breached, leaving the pond empty and the dream of the trail up in the air.

But, as they say, good things come to those who wait! With the help of a public and private partnership, our town rallied and worked hard over the last nine years to bring the Old Mill Pond back to life. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of local leaders and community members, we can now enjoy a beautiful outdoor space that adds charm to Lexington!

What to Expect on the Trail

The new Old Mill Pond Trail is a lovely 1.15-mile paved loop that wraps around the picturesque Lexington Mill Pond. Picture yourself walking, jogging, or biking along the path, surrounded by nature. And let’s not forget about those breezy bridges and the cozy seating areas that pop up along the way. They make for perfect spots to soak in the views, maybe even enjoy a little picnic!

If you plan to visit, here’s some handy info to keep in mind:

  • Bicycles are welcome – just be sure to leave your E-bikes at home.
  • ADA accessible and handicapped parking is available right near the Old Mill Brew Pub.
  • To keep the trail safe and pleasant for everyone, no fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, or swimming is allowed.
  • Remember, no motorized vehicles except for wheelchairs are permitted on the trail.
  • Leashed dogs are more than welcome, so bring your furry friends along for the adventure!
  • Parking is available at 711 E. Main Street, 717 Main Street, and 510 S. Lake Drive.

Weather Update

While you’re making your plans to visit the new trail, be sure to check the weather! Today, we’re expecting a bit of rain in Lexington, with showers in the morning leading to steadier rain in the afternoon. Temperatures will be topping out around a comfortable 74°F, so don’t forget your umbrella! Winds from the north-northeast could reach up to 20 mph, and there’s about a 90% chance of rain, with a forecasted half-inch of rainfall for the day. Be cautious of any localized flooding, just in case!

Join the Celebration!

As we step into this new chapter for our town, we invite you all to head out to the Old Mill Pond Trail, take a leisurely stroll, and make some new memories. Enjoy the fresh air and the beauty that Lexington has to offer. We’re excited to see all of you out there savoring this wonderful new addition to our community!

Happy exploring, Lexington!
