Lexington County has announced significant staffing changes for the coming academic year following a special meeting held by the Lexington One school district board of trustees on June 27. The board approved 22 staffing recommendations, which included positions for new certified staff as well as two administrative roles.
Patrick Burnett is set to transition from his role as head of Centerville Elementary and take on the leadership of Lexington Elementary as their new principal. He will be ably supported by assistant principal Cynthia Laizer, a seasoned educator with over two decades in the Beaufort County School District. The previous principal at Lexington Elementary, Lori Meyers, is said to be leaving the school to pursue new professional opportunities, as detailed in a recent letter to families from Lexington County Superintendent Gerrita Postlewait.
Burnett is no stranger to Lexington County, having served as principal at Centerville Elementary since the school opened in 2020. Before his time at Centerville, heearned his stripes as an educator by teaching for six years at Meadow Glen Middle School. In addition, he has significant experience in athletics, having coached football and basketball at both River Bluff High School and Meadow Glen Middle. Burnett’s academic credentials include bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from the University of South Carolina, along with certifications in elementary and middle level administration and education.
In a statement from the district, Superintendent Gerrita Postlewait praised Burnett’s dedication and enthusiasm. “Mr. Burnett is a vibrant leader who is passionate about education and committed to student success. During his time as an assistant principal and teacher in our district, he has gained vital experience in both the instructional and operational aspects of leading a school, learning from some of our district’s most seasoned principals.” Postlewait was quoted as saying.
Cynthia Laizer, the new assistant principal at Lexington Elementary, brings a wealth of experience from her illustrious 27-year career in education. She most recently worked as a behavior interventionist at Lexington One. Laizer also held various positions at Beaufort County School District, including assistant principal, instructional coach, and teacher. Her qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from King’s College, along with two master’s degrees in literacy curriculum development and educational administration. She is certified in elementary administration and elementary and early childhood education.
The school community is looking forward to welcoming the new leadership duo at Lexington Elementary and eagerly anticipates a successful transition to the new school year.
