New Principal Announced for Fulmer Middle by District 2

WEST COLUMBIA, SC, June 25, 2024 – Lexington School District Two announced a significant appointment for Fulmer Middle School’s administration. Jonathan Wilburn, a familiar face and current assistant principal, will be assuming the mantle of the principal for the 2024-2025 academic year. The selection was recommended by Superintendent Dr. Brenda Hafner and confirmed by the Board of Trustees at its meeting on June 20.

A Storied Administrator for a Noted School

Wilburn has been instrumental in the transformation of Fulmer Middle School, which earned the distinction of a National School to Watch, an International Model PLC School, and a recipient of a Best Middle Schools badge from the annual US News and World Report ranking. Superintendent Dr. Brenda Hafner lauded, “Mr. Wilburn will continue to guide Fulmer on the path of continuous improvement and maintain the culture of excellence the school is recognized for.”

Background and Future Goals of the Newly Appointed Principal

Wilburn kicked off his educational journey at Fulmer Middle in 1998 as a social studies teacher. He later took on the assistant principal role in 2013. His academic portfolio comprises bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Columbia International University, along with a M.Ed. and Ed.S from the University of South Carolina.

Expressive about his commitment to Fulmer Middle, Wilburn stated, “Fulmer is a community school that values academic and behavioral growth of students. High expectations for both students and adults, complemented by necessary support, are fundamental to learning.”

Wilburn is eager to collaborate with other stakeholders and keep the school’s engagement with families and the community alive. His mission is to continue aiding families in raising excellent citizens through the implementation of a rigorous and involving curriculum.
