Columbia, SC, get ready! There’s something exciting brewing in the BullStreet District, and it involves a fantastic new spot called The Lawn. This vibrant gathering place is set to open in the first half of 2025, and it will be anchored by the specialty pizza shop Coastal Crust Wood-fired Pizza. Yes, you read that right!
Robert Hughes, the driving force behind Hughes Development Corp., is all about fostering community vibes. Forget the idea of keeping kids off the lawn; the new development is designed for families, friends, and everyone in between to come together. “We’re creating a dynamic community gathering space designed to bring people together,” Hughes said.
The Lawn promises to be buzzing with life. Picture this: an acre of public space that can host everything from yoga classes to weekend festivals. It’ll be surrounded by trendy retail spots and delightful restaurants, making it the ultimate destination in the city.
So, what’s going to be inside this community oasis? For starters, there will be a lush 3,750 square-foot artificial turf play area with tiered seating and an event stage. Imagine sitting outside with friends as the gorgeous catenary lights twinkle overhead while listening to live music from around the area!
But that’s not all. There will also be café and bistro tables to grab a bite while soaking up the sun, plus speakers cleverly hidden in the planters, ensuring a lively atmosphere all day long.
One of the standout features of The Lawn will be the historic Williams Building, which is being revitalized to house Coastal Crust Wood-fired Pizza. This spot will combine the building’s historic charm with a fresh, modern feel. It opens up to a large green space where families can relax and kids can play freely.
Coastal Crust, known for their delicious wood-fired pizzas, is branching out to Columbia for the first time. With locations already thriving in places like Mount Pleasant and Isle of Palms, President Brian Piesner is excited about the new adventure. “When I learned about the plans for The Lawn, it became clear that this is the essence of the Coastal Crust tradition,” Piesner shared.
Hughes envisions The Lawn as being the “third place” for Columbia residents — a spot to enjoy time with family and friends outside of home and work. “If you’re early to meet your spouse or friends, you’ll just say ‘let’s meet at The Lawn,’ and everyone will know right where you are,” Hughes explained.
This community space is set to be the everyday heartbeat of the BullStreet District, a place where families can enjoy delicious pizza and where kids can run around safely under the warm lights.
As Columbia prepares for this exciting new addition, the anticipation is definitely in the air. The Lawn is not just another park; it’s a place designed with the community in mind. With Coastal Crust leading the charge, we can’t wait to see how this space transforms into a vibrant hub for everyone. So mark your calendars for 2025; you won’t want to miss it!
