As National Signing Day arrives in Charlotte, high school seniors are seizing the moment to announce their commitments to colleges across the nation. The NCAA’s new recruitment policies mark a significant change in how student-athletes engage with their future schools. Local schools are celebrating a variety of signings as the excitement around college football and the Charlotte 49ers continues to grow. The Queen City is buzzing with energy as high school seniors across the area seize an incredible opportunity to take their athletic careers to the next level. Today marks the much-anticipated National Signing Day, a time when student-athletes proudly put pen to paper, declaring their commitment to colleges and universities across the nation. This year’s excitement is heightened by a major shift in NCAA policies that will change how athletes commit to their future schools.
For decades, the National Letter of Intent (NLI) has been the gold standard for student-athletes announcing their commitments. However, the NCAA has decided to retire this system, allowing it to take a step back after decades of tradition since its inception in the 1960s. Instead, athletes will now engage in financial aid agreements with the NCAA, marking a new era in recruitment practices.
Starting today, current seniors are eligible to sign for basketball and all Division I and Division II sports. The early basketball signing period will continue until November 20. In contrast, participants in other sports can sign at any moment before August 1, 2025, which opens the door for more flexibility among athletes.
For fans of college football, the early signing period for Division I will occur on December 4-6, while the regular signing period for Division I and II will kick off starting February 5 and wrap up by April 1 for Division I, and August 1 for Division II. With these new timelines and changes, the excitement and anticipation around recruiting are at an all-time high.
