The Midlands area of South Carolina is bracing for some pretty rough weather on March 5, 2025, with the National Weather Service predicting high winds and thunderstorms that could bring damaging results. What’s Brewing?

Forecasters expect winds to be sustained between 36 and 46 miles per hour, with some gusts reaching a staggering 75 miles per hour. It’s going to be stormy for sure, with the bulk of the action hitting our region between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m.. Most people should expect the storm to make its presence felt during the morning hours.

And if that wasn’t enough to worry about, there’s also a chance of isolated tornadoes popping up during the storm. That’s enough to keep anyone on high alert!

School Closures and Delays

Given the severe weather forecast, school districts across the Midlands are making necessary changes to their schedules to keep students and staff safe. Here’s how it looks:

Orangeburg County School District: All schools will be closed on March 5. Safety comes first, and they’re postponing all athletic events and extracurricular activities.
Lexington County School District One: Schools are closed, but staff is required to report at 10 a.m.. Afternoon activities will proceed as planned.
Lexington School District Four: They’ll operate on a two-hour delay, but the school day will continue as normal after that.
Lexington-Richland School District Five: Here, too, a two-hour delay is in place. No breakfast will be served, but students can look forward to lunch.
Richland One schools: Breakfast won’t be available due to the delay, but afterschool programs will still run as usual.
Richland County School District Two: Expect a two-hour delay for all schools.
Fairfield County School District: You guessed it, they are on a three-hour delay, anticipating winds gusting up to 50 mph.
Lexington School District Two: Early learners will have a tough break as all 3K half-day child development classes are canceled, but the rest will operate on a two-hour delay.
Lexington County School District Three: They have opted for an eLearning Day on March 5, and all after-school activities are canceled.
