On Memorial Day, May 27, 2024, various communities within the Midlands region of South Carolina will host events aimed at remembering and honoring the men and women who lost their lives in service to the United States. These activities are open to individuals interested in offering their support and gratitude for these fallen heroes.
In Chapin, a Memorial Day event will be conducted under the auspices of the Chapin American Legion Post 193. At 10 a.m., the public will gather in front of the Town Hall building to pay their respects.
Orangeburg County will conduct its solemn Memorial Day ceremony on May 26 at 1643 Russell Street, starting at 3 p.m. A highlight of the occasion will be a speech from Major General (RET.) Todd B. McCaffrey.
West Columbia will host various events including a church service at Mt. Hermon on Leaphart Road, set for 6:30 p.m., May 27. Beforehand, on May 25, a Memorial Day Dance and Potluck, complete with a DJ and line band, will take place, with doors opening at 6 p.m. and the flag ceremony beginning at 8 p.m.
On the same day, the 4th annual Memorial Day Remembrance event, organized by Congaree Cares & Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church, will commence at 3 p.m. at the South Congaree Arena.
The Sumter County Veterans Association extends an open invitation for their annual Memorial Day ceremony on May 27 at 11 a.m., taking place at Sumter Veterans Flag Park.
In Richland County, the Palmetto Concert Band will host its annual Memorial Day Concert at the Koger Center for the Arts. The free concert starts at 4 p.m. on May 26.
Clutch Coffee, a local coffee chain present throughout the Midlands, will be offering free americanos to military members all day on Memorial Day.
On May 27 at 10 a.m., Caughman Harman Funeral Home in Lexington County will conduct a Memorial Day Service at its location on N. Lake Drive.
All of these activities afford Midlands’ residents ample opportunities to spend the Memorial Day weekend in reverence and gratitude for those who lost their lives in service of our country.
