Lexington Two announces new principal for New Bridge Academy

West Columbia, SC (06/24/2024) – Lexington County Education system has announced a major administrative change in its burgeoning New Bridge Academy for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. The district has hired a new principal, Kelly Remia, whose far-reaching experience and expert training are expected to augment the quality of education provided at the academy.

Background

Remia’s appointment to the coveted position was recommended by Superintendent Dr. Brenda Hafner and later approved by the Board of Trustees in their meeting held on June 20. Remia has previously rendered her services as a coordinator for Lexington-Richland 5’s FIVE Virtual Program. Hafner, expressing her confidence in the decision said, “Mrs. Remia brings a wealth of experience and training that I know will continue a path of inspiration, passion, and high expectations for our New Bridge Academy students.”

Professional Journey

Remia’s educational career started back in 2009, when she began working at Richland Two’s Blythewood Academy. She served as a transition specialist and later as an assistant administrator. By 2020, she had moved to Lexington-Richland 5’s Irmo Middle School, where she assumed the role of an assistant principal. From there, she transitioned to the district’s FIVE Virtual Program and served as an assistant principal before being promoted to coordinator in 2022.

Education

On the academic front, Remia has an impressive profile. She holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Columbia College and a M.Ed from Grand Canyon University.

Expressing her gratitude and enthusiasm for the new role, Remia stated, “I am grateful for the opportunity to join Lexington School District Two and New Bridge Academy. Lexington Two has established a standard of excellence in learning, fostering opportunities for success in all children. As the new principal of New Bridge Academy, I will continue to serve as a champion for my students and families by creating a community and opportunities that will support all students’ social, emotional, and academic needs.”

Starting Date

Remia is set to begin her new role as principal on July 1, 2024. The district eagerly awaits the fresh leadership and hopes to witness further advancements in their educational pursuits under her diligent guidance.
