As the leaves begin to change and the air turns crisp, the lovely city of Lexington is buzzing with excitement! Residents are not just preparing for fall festivities; they are also gearing up for some invaluable safety training provided by the Lexington Police Department. Chief Terrence Green has officially announced the schedule for the fourth quarter of 2024 for the free monthly STOP THE BLEED and C.R.A.S.E. (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events) training classes. This marks a significant milestone, as it is the third year that these essential sessions have been offered!
Many community members have expressed interest in these classes, and it’s heartwarming to see such enthusiasm for safety. In recent years, schools, businesses, and community groups have sought out these courses to empower individuals to act confidently in critical situations. The focus is on equipping attendees with the skills needed to respond effectively should they ever encounter someone in distress from an injury or find themselves in an active shooter scenario.
The STOP THE BLEED course is a comprehensive two-hour session, where instructors guide participants through three quick actions that can save a life. You’ll learn about vital techniques, including how to use a tourniquet and implement wound packing. This training is crucial, as knowing how to respond during emergencies can make all the difference.
On the other hand, the C.R.A.S.E. class, which also runs for two hours, is built around the Avoid, Deny, Defend strategy developed by ALERRT. This training is designed to help individuals plan and respond to an active shooter event. This proactive approach provides valuable strategies and guidance that can help attendees make critical decisions in life-threatening situations.
111 Maiden Lane. Each session starts at 6:00 p.m. and lasts about two hours. Mark your calendars for the next STOP THE BLEED sessions on Tuesday, October 8 and Tuesday, November 12. The C.R.A.S.E. classes will take place on Thursday, October 10 and one more session in November.
The good news? These classes are entirely free to attend! However, due to the popularity of the courses, there are a limited number of seats available for each class. They are open to anyone aged 16 and older, so whether you’re a parent, a concerned citizen, or someone simply wanting to be prepared, there’s a place for you!
If you’re interested in participating (and we highly encourage you to), don’t hesitate to get in touch with Officer Todd Zeigler. You can reach him at 803-359-6260 or send an email to tzeigler@lexsc.gov for any questions or to secure your spot in the upcoming classes.
As we enjoy the beautiful fall weather—expecting a lovely high of 82°F with a mix of sun and clouds—add attending one of these valuable trainings to your to-do list this month! And with a low of 61°F in the evening, it’s the perfect time for a cozy night out in your community following a productive afternoon of learning.
So let’s get ready, Lexington! Equip yourself with the knowledge and skills that could save lives. Who knows? You might just be the one to make a difference in your community when it matters the most!
